This is because of the salaries owed to the actor, director and set crew, as well as the costs of certain shots, props and special effects, if needed. I think this scene is interesting because Walsh (who will be shown to be by far the smarter of the two operatives) actually has honed in on the villain and this significant fight from the very beginning, but Jake dismisses this evidence. Instead, he gets distracted by the call from Duffy, the venal, airhead operative, who says he’s caught Mulwray with “a cute little twist” in Echo Park. So Jake runs off to see what’s going on there, leaving Walsh and the real evidence behind — although we think Jake’s finally on to Mulwray’s mistress.

Wrap – Incident on 459

The period immediately after the shooting ends, when all the cameras are turned off. During this stage of Incident on 459, everything gets disassembled and the set is cleared of the cast and crew. All equipment and props must be returned in a functioning order, to the suppliers and there must be an inventory list. Walsh couldn’t hear any of the fight except for the word “apple core.” Which does turn out to be a significant clue, but sounds completely and ridiculously innocuous here.
