Chaos. People are running left and right. Distant civil defense sirens. Filipinos grab their smartphones for the news. Closer
church bells toll incessantly. Nearby and in the distance. Ever louder. Alarm. There is an eccentric street preacher who is reading from the King James Bible.

Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.

And though they say, The Lord liveth; surely they swear falsely.

EXT/INT. MINI-VAN – ST. THERESE PRIVATE SCHOOL – DAY
A mini-van drives towards the school, carrying a worried ISAGANI MORENO (34), his housemaid PRINCESS (50) and his younger children DEBORAH (6), SARAH (4), REBECCA (1). Isagani is in a business suit, he’s sober, practical and has calm intelligent eyes. Someone who never imposes himself, but has a natural sway over others. A banker.

EXT. ST. THERESE PRIVATE SCHOOL – DAY
The mini-van stops and the door flies open.

EXT. ST. THERESE PRIVATE SCHOOL – DAY
The NUNS guard the school entrance. They look more than concerned. They survey (especially) the sky and parking lot before releasing three girls. MARY (13), EVE (10), and HANNAH (8). They run to the van.
EXT. SIDEWALK – MANILA – DAY

How shall I pardon thee for this? Thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots’ houses.
EXT/INT. MINI-VAN – ST. THERESE PRIVATE SCHOOL – DAY
As his daughters enter the van he calls their name and despite the calamity they smile. Their father is assuring.

Hannah, Eve, Mary.
EXT/INT. STREETS – MINI-VAN – DAY
Chaos. They drive through the streets of Manila. Isagani tries to calm his family.

So how was school today!
MARY
Dad, there’s a war!
EVE
Mom!
Isagani
Your mom can take care of herself.
They are almost involved in a car wreck. The citizens are panicking.
EXT. STREETS – MANILA – DAY

Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the Lord’s.
EXT/INT. MINI-VAN – STREETS – DAY
The family ride past a church. Many PEOPLE are going inside.
EXT. SIDEWALK – MANILA – DAY

They have belied the Lord, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine: And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.
EXT. Our Lady of Remedies Parish – DAY
The family arrives at a different church.
ISAGANI
(to children)
Kids, I will come and fetch you shortly. All right?
MARY
Dad.
ISAGANI
I’m going to go find out about mom.
Isagani parks the van at the church and the girls look at him in dismay. He’s not coming with them?
A cruise missile flies low overhead.
Undaunted and following instructions, Princess gets out of the van with Deborah, Sarah and Rebecca. The young ones are her responsibility.
