It’s an ambitious endeavor that I must say tends to fail more often than not. It’s far easier to develop an ordinary hero in an ordinary world than writing a hero who is larger-than-life. Plus, the screenwriter has a far greater chance of selling a spec that’s not based on a larger-than-life hero.

Development

This stage mainly consists of planning and conceptualising a script Deeper, based off a book, another movie, a true story, or can even be an original concept. After approval, the director works with the writers to come up with a step-by-step outline of the progression of the film. Watch the dialogue, larger-than-life characters speak from a position of strength from the moment we meet them. They’re confident, brave and willing to do what’s necessary to accomplish their goals. Unfortunately, this works against developing an arc. For the spec script, the hero should develop into this confident soul and once the arc is apparent he’ll speak from a position of power and confidence.

Pre-Production

In this phase, the key objective is to narrow down options and plan the development of the movie in terms of Deeper film cast, film crew, and budget. A line manager or production manager is usually hired during this process to create a schedule and manage the budget for the film. Pre-production also includes figuring out the shoot location. Another pitfall in writing larger-than-life characters is the antagonist. For most specs to work the antagonist needs to smarter, cleverer and perhaps even more physically endowed than the hero. This forces the hero to rise to the occasion and change in order to defeat the antagonist. With larger-than-life characters, the antagonist is usually a clever equal and the two spar wits to see who comes out on top. To overcome this pitfall in the spec script, keep the antagonist stronger until the hero has arced (not a moment before), then make them clever equals who’ll play a dangerous cat and mouse game to see who wins. This will usually take place in the final resolution also known as Act III.

Wrap – Deeper

The period immediately after the shooting ends, when all the cameras are turned off. During this stage of Deeper, everything gets disassembled and the set is cleared of the cast and crew. All equipment and props must be returned in a functioning order, to the suppliers and there must be an inventory list. [1.35] — Back at home, an exhausted Jake has no sooner hit the bed when the phone rings. A hoarse voice says “Ida Sessions wants to see you.” Jake says she can come to his office in the morning and hangs up, but the caller calls back and insists, giving him an address.
