Once youve learned how to deal with flawed characters with ease, combine the dysfunctional hero with one of the cool concepts youve come up. Dont model these heroes too closely to the real-life dysfunctional people you know; fictionalize!
Development
This stage mainly consists of planning and conceptualising a script Escape, based off a book, another movie, a true story, or can even be an original concept. After approval, the director works with the writers to come up with a step-by-step outline of the progression of the film. I was in the supermarket one day and was behind an obnoxious woman who was complaining about everything she could think of; the prices, the parking, the dirty shopping cart, the clerk, etc. What a miserable human being! In real life I ignored her. She wasnt worth my time. Im not Dr. Phil. But in my screenwriter mind, I had an armed gunman bust into the supermarket, pistol whipped her in the mouth and during a hostage crisis she learned to appreciate the clerk, the parking, etc.
Pre-Production
In this phase, the key objective is to narrow down options and plan the development of the movie in terms of Escape film cast, film crew, and budget. A line manager or production manager is usually hired during this process to create a schedule and manage the budget for the film. Pre-production also includes figuring out the shoot location. By identifying flawed people in your life, using your pen (computer) and coming up with ways to force them to change, youve learned how to create commercialized characters that will sell to Hollywood. Do this exercise everyday in your mind.
Director: Colm McCarthy (I), Production Co: Phantom Four Films [US]
The production stage is when the actual practical Escape film production work begins. The primary aim is to stick to the budget and schedule, which requires constant attentiveness. The film director works with the cast and crew to ensure that everything goes as planned. Communication is key between all the involved parties. Director: Colm McCarthy (I), Production Co: Phantom Four Films [US] will be producing this film. You tried to talk. You tried action. The clock is ticking. What now? FORCE! A hero, just like the flawed person in your life who doesnt want to change, must be FORCED to do. Give the overweight friend a heart attack and bet he reconsiders going to the gym. Flood your buddys parents basement. Now he has to move! I dont mean this literally just via your imagination. But just imagine the things youd do if you could imagine how youd evoke change in all the flawed people in your life. Wouldnt it be fun?
Photography
Escape Photography is essentially the most expensive phase in film production. This is because of the salaries owed to the actor, director and set crew, as well as the costs of certain shots, props and special effects, if needed. All the previous stages have been set to ensure the smooth transition of photography. This is where the camera rolls, so it is important for the film director to follow the schedule and remain within the budget. Genre: Drama. For me personally its a very satisfying thing to see a selfish character change throughout the course of the story until at the climax s/he performs a heroic and unselfish act.
Wrap – Escape
The period immediately after the shooting ends, when all the cameras are turned off. During this stage of Escape, everything gets disassembled and the set is cleared of the cast and crew. All equipment and props must be returned in a functioning order, to the suppliers and there must be an inventory list. Very, very often the hero/ines big character change is realizing her outer desire is not important at all, and might even be the thing that has been holding her back in life, and she gives that up to pursue her inner desire, or true need.
